One of the names on the November ballot is Michael Whatley, the Republican nominee for the United States Senate.

Michael is a husband, a father, a churchman, and a North Carolinian who has spent his life in service rather than in performance. Raised in the mountains of Watauga County, he is the son of an accountant and a town librarian. He graduated from Watauga High School, earned his history degree at UNC Charlotte, studied at Wake Forest, and later took a law degree from Notre Dame. He clerked in Charlotte, served as chief of staff to Senator Elizabeth Dole, and helped shape energy and farm policy so families and producers could keep the lights on and the fields working. He and his wife, Suzanne, make their home in Gaston County. Their three children are in school here in the Carolinas.

What we like about Michael is simple. He is steady. He is kind in the way serious people are kind — he shows up, he does the work, and he treats public office as a duty. That is the kind of man we want representing North Carolina in the United States Senate.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Please vote. Complete your ballot. Vote every race on it — federal, state, and local. A Senate race this important is won by neighbors who remember to show up, not by people who meant to.
