Our own Wake Forest neighbor Mike Schietzelt is the Republican incumbent for North Carolina House District 35, which covers northern Wake — including much of Wake Forest and the communities many of us drive through every day.

Mike is a husband, a father of four boys, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, and an attorney. The son of a disabled Vietnam veteran, he grew up in a single-parent home in Burlington, learned work early, played trumpet, served as a Marine, sounded Taps at Arlington, and earned his law degree at Duke. He and his wife, Carmon, live here, attend Summit Church, and are raising Arthur, Calvin, Daniel, and EJ in the district he represents.

What we like about Mike is simple. He is local. He is decent. He treats the House as work, not a performance. In his first term he helped stop tolls on Capital Boulevard, pressed for teacher pay, and fought to keep more money in family pockets. That is the kind of man we want representing District 35 in Raleigh.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Early voting runs October 15 through October 31. Please vote. Complete your ballot. Vote every race on it — federal, state, and local. A close House seat is won by neighbors who remember to show up.
